"Timeless Art Deco with
Van Cleef & Arpels High Jewelry" exhibition
Teien Art Museum
The "Timeless Art Deco with Van Cleef & Arpels High Jewelry" exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of the International Exhibition of Modern Industrials and Decorative Arts, held in Paris in 1925. It features 250 creations—jewelry, timepieces and precious objects—from the Van Cleef & Arpels patrimonial collection and private collections, alongside around 60 of the Maison’s archival documents.
ART DECO AESTHETHIC
The first section of the exhibition, entitled "Emergence of an Art Deco Aesthetic" presents a selection of High Jewelry creations from the early years of the Art Deco period, including pieces awarded the Grand Prize at the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts.
EVOLUTION TOWARDS A SINGULAR STYLE
The next section, "Evolution towards a Singular style", explores a new sculptural language in jewelry characterized by a quest for volume and three-dimensionality. White creations also attest to the importance of diamonds and platinum, which still adorn some of the Maison's contemporary creations, such as the Snowflake or Flowerlace High Jewelry collections.
MODERNISM AND FUNCTIONALITY
"Modernism and Functionality" are at the heart of the third section which presents jewelry creations and accessories that embody the spirit of Modernism, distinguished by abstract geometric forms and functional elegance.
Created by the Maison in 1933, the Minaudière was designed to offer women around the world an improved version of the much appreciated 1920s vanity case. Bringing together various essential accessories, it may have been named "Minaudière" after the name of the family estate outside Paris.

NATURE AS A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION
The "Garden of Savoir-faire", presented in the museum’s annex, highlights the savoir-faire that Van Cleef & Arpels has preserved and perfected to this day. Visitors are invited to embark on a journey through five poetic garden scenes, brought to life by jewelry inspired by the flowers and animals dear to Van Cleef & Arpels.
