Knowledge of precious stones and the pursuit of excellence are at the heart of Van Cleef & Arpels’ identity. Based on the «4 Cs» classification defined by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the Maison only selects the best grades of color—D to F—, of clarity —IF to VVS—and of cut—Excellent or Very Good—, which contribute to the brilliance of the stone. In addition to this initial evaluation stage, the stone experts examine the gemstones by eye, applying the exacting standards and taste specific to the Maison.

The quality of pavé diamonds is systematically checked under a 10x magnifying glass according to a rigorous in-house process, while each center stone—ranging from 0.3 to 3 carats—is carefully examined. This method affords an appreciation of the elegance of the cut, as well as the beauty of the material.
