The tale of a starry night
On Tanabata, the day when twinkling stars in the night sky celebrate their annual reunion, the Maison illuminates this special season—a time to reflect on bonds with loved ones—with gentle specks of light.
Japanese illustrator MIKEMORI depicts two adorable birds. Meeting under the summer night sky, these two birds are like Orihime and Hikoboshi. As they pass through bamboo groves, cross clear streams, and nestle close, their hearts connected, even the flowers reflected on the water's surface send them smiles.

Van Cleef & Arpels deploys all its jewelry expertise to bring the Perlée creations to life. They reflect the Maison’s taste in gemstones, developed over more than a hundred years of savoir-faire. To prepare the precious metal for the stones, the jeweler crafts an openwork structure to enable light to pass through the stones and amplify their shine.
The setting stage also requires care and precision, reflecting the excellence of Van Cleef & Arpels’ savoir-faire. Lastly, mirror polishing – one of the Maison’s signature savoir-faire since the 1920s – reveals the full radiance of the creations.
Emblematic of Van Cleef & Arpels, the golden bead draws inspiration from a decorative detail that adorned select pieces in the 1920s. By 1948, it had become a motif in its own right, inspiring creations replete with volume and curves.
In the late 1940s, the golden beads took on greater volume as they appeared in the Couscous and Bagatelle creations. These richly shaped pieces unite the radiance of precious metal with the shimmer of gemstones.
