Aquamarine

Aquamarine is a superior-quality gemstone of the beryl family. A stone dear to Van Cleef & Arpels, aquamarine lends its intense clarity and exceptional glow to High Jewelry creations. At first glance its characteristic blue color, resulting from its iron content, calls to mind the beauty of the southern sea.

The stone takes its name from the Latin aqua marina, meaning “sea water,” and was once worn by mariners as a good luck charm during their travels. A symbol of protection, it traditionally adorned engagement rings before diamonds came to fulfill this role.

Van Cleef & Arpels predominantly uses Brazilian aquamarine in its creations, a variety acclaimed for its quality. The Maison selects the purest materials and the most vivid colors to create pieces of the  utmost brilliance.

To protect the stone and preserve its unique color, Van Cleef & Arpels recommends storing it in a fabric-lined box out of direct sunlight, away from sources of heat and separate from other jewelry.
