Only 11 copies of this exceptionnal coin were minted.
Since its inception in 864 in the heart of Paris, Monnaie de Paris has cultivated the rich tradition of precious metalwork for the past 12 centuries. Each year, it collaborates with one of the 70 luxury houses in France to design a unique collection that combines the virtuosity of both institutions.
This year, diamond will merge with gold, as Monnaie de Paris and Van Cleef & Arpels join forces to design a 1-kilo pure gold coin ornamented with a diamond butterfly, faithfully reflecting all the delicacy and refinement of nature and wonder.
This 1-kilo pure gold coin reflects all the delicacy of Nature and Imagination inspirations for the Maison.
The collaboration began with the appropriation of Van Cleef & Arpels’ universe by the Monnaie de Paris’ master engraver.
To achieve this 1-kilo pure gold coin, the master engraver meticulously transposed the elements imbued with elegance, finesse, and levity, and arranged them in a background reminiscent of the spirit of the Maison.
On the reverse side, three hands symbolise the excellence of Van Cleef & Arpels Mains d’Or™, craftsmen from its Place Vendôme workshops.
The artistry of the setter is evident in the butterfly motif that enhances the composition of the coin. The butterfly itself set with 34 round diamonds for the wings and a marquise-cut diamond for the body, magnifies the light through the hollowed background, dancing off the gems as they are elegantly revealed.
The expertise of two Maisons put at the service of one exceptional work of art.
The poetry of this ensemble is completed with a glass dome reminiscent of France’s 19th century brides globes. Protected in this manner, the coin appears to emerge from the floral decoration that frames it.
