The Heritage Collection

For over 10 years, the Maison has been searching out creations produced between the 1920s and the 1980s, offering them up to vintage jewelry collectors from around the world. From the outset, the Héritage collection has brought together several hundred pieces – some extremely rare – tracing the evolution of the Van Cleef & Arpels style over the years. Before being unveiled, each piece is researched in the Maison's archives and ultimately presented with a certificate of authenticity.

Highlight on the Ruban clip, 1941

In the 1940s, Van Cleef & Arpels was significantly inspired by the world of couture: textile motifs took then center of stage. Gold was worked to imitate the weave of certain fabrics or decorative trimmings. This clip from 1941 evokes the end of a ribbon. Its two wide strips of yellow gold, edged with a row of baguette-cut sapphires, are further embellished with a border of diamonds with a loop at the end. This piece can be divided into two identical clips and can be worn in a wide variety of ways ‒ on a jacket, a bag, a hat, on shoes, or as a hair accessory.

This particular clip once belonged to Barbara Hutton (1912-1979), a great client of Van Cleef & Arpels.
