Opening of Van Cleef & Arpels' Seoul Maison

Van Cleef & Arpels, present in Korea since 1989, is strengthening its ties to the country with the inauguration of a new boutique in the dynamic Cheongdam-dong neighborhood. The Maison will be spreading its graceful wings in a building entirely designed by the Jouin Manku Agency, amid a refined decor reflecting both Korean artistic heritage and the sources of inspiration dear to Van Cleef & Arpels.

Drawing from French and Korean traditions, the Maison is fashioning a unique architectural jewel where its creations will shine together with the art of hospitality, all in ample spaces conducive to reverie. With this prestigious location, Seoul joins Paris (Place Vendôme), New York (Fifth Avenue), Tokyo (Ginza) and Hong Kong (Landmark Prince’s) in the elite club of iconic Van Cleef & Arpels addresses.

Located on the south bank of the Hangang River, which flows through the city from west to east, the Maison Van Cleef & Arpels stands out for its sweeping openwork facade revealing a monumental garden. The grille calls to mind a web of giant reeds fluidly enveloping the building in a lozenge pattern – a tribute to the Maison’s hallmark – through which the eye can distinguish the various volumes making up the boutique’s five levels.

The interior or the building is awash in a luxuriant garden that seems to extend through the bay windows. An allusion to the seven mountains encircling the city, all five levels of the boutique thrive in a lush tribute to nature, a special source of inspiration for Van Cleef & Arpels since its creation. This garden, designed in collaboration with world-renowned Korean landscape architect Seo Ahn, changes with the seasons. It reigns as the mainspring of the boutique’s decor, complementing an assortment of earnestly understated furnishings.

The trusting relationship that has united Van Cleef & Arpels and the Jouin Manku Agency for nearly fifteen years took on renewed momentum for the renovation of the Hong Kong boutique. The duo made up of designer Patrick Jouin and architect Sanjit Manku already designed the decor for the Maison at Place Vendôme, as well as those in New York and Ginza.

Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku

Dreamers, trailblazers, inventors… Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku see each new project as an adventure, an opportunity to go beyond their limits, creating ever unique spaces that are at once elegant and soul-stirring. Founded in 2006, the Jouin Manku Agency blends architecture, spatial design and product design, always in a spirit of simplicity. The pair creates and brings to life every aspect of the spaces they design. Following this exacting creative vision, they develop exceptional environments, composing interior designs as immersive as they are striking.
