Van Cleef & Arpels’ partnership with the Bolshoi Theatre
Collaborations with the Bolshoi Theatre have shaped the recent history of Van Cleef & Arpels, illustrating the Maison’s strong attachment to the art of dance. Its partnership with the illustrious Moscow theatre dates back to May 2012, when the institution hosted five performances of a new production of Balanchine’s Jewels.

First performed in 1967, the ballet in three acts Emeralds, Rubies and Diamonds was born from an encounter between George Balanchine and Claude Arpels in New York. In 1966, the legendary choreographer visited the Van Cleef & Arpels boutique on 5th Avenue, where he admired the precious stones on display.

In 2017, Van Cleef & Arpels sponsored the premiere of the ballet Nureyev. This unique choreographic work, featuring a choir and a mime troupe, pays tribute to acclaimed Russian dancer and choreographer Rudolf Nureyev. The ballet, which has been incorporated into the Bolshoi’s regular repertoire, portrays the twists and turns of his life while tackling subjects related to humanity, society and creative freedom.
This partnership is part of a program led by the Maison to support world-renowned institutions such as the Royal Opera House in London, the Australian Ballet in Sydney and the Hong Kong Ballet.
