"Daniel Brush, An Edifying Journey" exhibition at L'ÉCOLE Asia Pacific, School of Jewelry Arts
Exhibition - July 4, 2023
L'ÉCOLE Asia Pacific, School of Jewelry Arts invites visitors to join an unexpected journey through the febrile imagination and thought-provoking artistry of Daniel Brush.
The exhibition in Hong Kong SAR, China displays Brush's jewels, objects, and sculptures, from the 1970s to the 2020s and follows his path from gold through aluminum to steel.
Showcasing the work of Daniel Brush for the first time in Asia, "An Edifying Journey" crosses boundaries between art, jewels, sculpture, philosophy and poetry, challenging our understanding of the role and meaning of the jewel today. The exhibition is part of a wider tribute celebrating the artist who recently passed away. Painter, sculptor, philosopher or even an engineer, Daniel Brush was a multifaceted artist.
The exhibition is organized around Brush's experimentations. Philosophical or alchemical in nature, his thought process around metals brought him to work with three of them: gold, steel, and alumunum. While he discovered ancient goldworking savoir faire by his own means, his techniques for steel and aluminum were more experimental.
Once considered precious, these metals had fallen out of favor in jewelry. Nothing could have pleased Daniel Brush more than to resurrect them.
