Van Cleef & Arpels presents a program in Los Angeles in collaboration with L.A. Dance Project and The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)
24 October 2022
From October 25th to 28th, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels presents a program of three performances in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the L.A. Dance Project and The Museum of Contemporary Art. Guided by the values of creation, transmission and education, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels aims to uphold the artists and institutions that showcase the modern and contemporary choreographic repertoire, while encouraging new productions.
First, Dimitri Chamblas will present Slow Show on October 25th. Staged in the outdoor plaza of The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, featuring fifty amateur dancers, this piece is revealed through movements slowed down to the extreme, almost imperceptible, invisible. Renewed during each performance, Slow Show is a collective experience and questions the method of creating an ephemeral community around a choreographic project.
Then, after a first run at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, Gisèle Vienne has developed a new version of her piece Crowd, adapted for outdoor spaces. Presented on October 26th and 27th, also in the public space outside L.A. Dance Project’s DTLA performance space, the piece is accompanied by techno music and based on contemporary video codes as slow motion, accelerations and even sometimes played backwards. Thus, borrowing as much from urban dance as from the state of being entranced, the choreographer proposes a hypnotic performance evoking the collective and creative euphoria of a night spent getting lost in the crowd.
Finally, on October 26th and 27th, Benjamin Millepied will invite the public to discover his latest creation Be Here Now at L.A. Dance Project’s DTLA performance space. Inspired by composer Andy Akiho’s recently released Seven Pillars, this abstract piece showcases the company’s excellent artists in a display of dancing that is both intimate and virtuosic.
