Chrysoprase
Chrysoprase is a particularly sought-after variety of chalcedony known for its characteristic green hue reminiscent of young leaves. Van Cleef & Arpels admires the stone’s vivacity, transforming it into ebullient “paillette” motifs for the Bouton d’or® collection, among other creations.
The chrysoprase used by the Maison stands out for even, harmonious tones and an exceptionally pure essence.
Known since Antiquity, chrysoprase was a medium of sculpture for Greeks and Romans, who used it to embellish jewelry. This stone was especially prized by Alexander the Great (King of Macedonia, born 356 BC, died 323 BC) and Frederick the Great (King of Prussia from 1740 to 1786).
Van Cleef & Arpels sources its chrysoprase predominantly in Australia. While the stone may display myriad nuances of green, from light shades to the deepest hues, the chrysoprase used by the Maison stands out for even, harmonious tones and an exceptionally pure essence. Various stages of polishing bring out its gleam and its vibrant color, imparting a unique intensity to every creation.
To preserve its shine, chrysoprase must be stored in a fabric-lined box separate from other jewelry.
