Romeo & Juliet, the latest creation by Benjamin Millepied
In 2019, Van Cleef & Arpels further developed its alliance with L.A. Dance Project by supporting the creation of Benjamin Millepied’s new ballet Romeo and Juliet and designing an eponymous High Jewelry collection. The ballet is set to debut in 2022 at Seine Musicale, outside Paris.
With this creation, choreographer Benjamin Millepied presents a contemporary take on Shakespeare’s tragedy while reinventing Prokofiev’s iconic score. Amid a contemporary cityscape, Romeo and Juliet appear as young adults whose union is thwarted by social mores. Thanks to a unique projection system, the star-crossed lovers’ story unfolds in modern-day Los Angeles.
Performed each evening by a different cast of varying gender makeups, this version of Romeo and Juliet is a veritable celebration of love in all its forms.
