Van Cleef & Arpels honors the Ludo bracelet, an emblematic piece of the Maison, with new watch creations. Ludo secret watches combine two traditions dear to the Maison: secret watch and transformability.
Mother-of-pearl is a material produced by certain mollusks. Mother-of-pearl is remarkable for the regularity of its surface and its subtle iridescent reflections which ensure its character and bring it to life in the sunshine.
For its creations, Van Cleef & Arpels carefully selects the thickest pieces that are particularly shiny and have the highest quality of iridescence, with a strict color palette that mingles soft pink and green undertones.
A member of the corundum family, the sapphire, together with the ruby, it is the second hardest stone after the diamond. The sapphire’s extensive palette of colors ranges from deep blue to intense pink, and includes yellow, orange and green.
The Maison selects sapphires with an ardent color, a brilliant glow and a pure essence.
Rare beryls of unparalleled beauty, the Maison’s emeralds are selected according to three main criteria that bring out their unique character.
Van Cleef & Arpels experts choose emeralds for their beauty and the emotions they arouse. They start by appraising the gems’ color, singling out stones that exhibit a deep and consistent green hue. They are also attentive to purity, assessing the subtlety and harmony of the inclusions characteristic to emeralds, known as jardins.
The third selection criterion is the essence, which indicates the quality of crystallization and determines the emerald’s brilliance. This in-depth observation makes it possible to bring to light exceptional stones endowed with a spiritual quality. Following a traditional lapidary technique, emeralds are “oiled” using a natural and colorless oil to preserve their original distinctive color.
A diamond forms through a combination of exceptional factors of temperature and pressure, deep down in the Earth’s mantle. Each gem was formed millions of years ago and bears witness to the Earth’s history. Diamonds are made of carbon and are distinctive for their hardness and light reflection properties.
Since 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels has been bringing its expertise to the service of the gem’s natural beauty in order to ensure that its creations offer extraordinary sparkle. Diamonds are a part of the Maison’s tradition of excellence, and they undergo a twofold selection process – both scientific and specific to Van Cleef & Arpels – for central and pavé stones alike. The process is initially based on the internationally recognized criteria known as the 4Cs: carat (weight), cut, color, and clarity. Only stones of the best quality are selected, with a color ranging from D to F, on a scale from D to Z, and a clarity between FL and VVS2.
Then each one is scrutinized by the meticulous eye of the Van Cleef & Arpels expert gemologists. Beyond meeting strict scientific criteria, the diamonds must also match the excellence and taste of Maison while considering the beauty and elegance of each stone, which make it stand out from the others.
