Special orders by the Maharani of Baroda

The Maharani of Baroda placed several unique orders with Van Cleef & Arpels, including this necklace set with more than 220 carats of emeralds from her personal collection.

Creation of the Zip necklace

The Maison had designed a zipper-inspired necklace back in 1938. Finally perfected in 1950, it could be worn open as a necklace, or closed as a bracelet.

1954

Debut of playful animal clips

Sold at the “boutique” at 22 Place Vendôme, these animal clips were part of new, affordable and easy-to-wear collections created by Van Cleef & Arpels. The Lion ébouriffé and Chat Malicieux clips became extremely popular.

Pearl and diamond jewelry ensemble for Grace Kelly

For their wedding, Prince Rainier III of Monaco offered his bride, Grace Kelly, a pearl and diamond jewelry ensemble created by Van Cleef & Arpels. The Maison became the official supplier of the Principality of Monaco.
