Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry pieces are made with precious materials and metals fulfilling the most stringent selection criteria. Depending on their properties, certain materials require specific care. To preserve the beauty of your jewelry piece over time, we recommend the following precautions.
How to wear your jewelry creation
Daily care advice for jewelry creations
Your Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry creation is delicate and thus requires special care and attention.
To prevent damage to your piece, we recommend avoiding exposure to fragrance, soap, chemicals or cosmetics, as these could affect its color and form. It is best to wait until fragrances and cosmetics have dried completely before wearing your jewelry.
It is important not to expose your creation to water (fresh, chlorinated or salt) or to high temperatures (such as prolonged sun exposure).
We generally recommend that you do not wear your jewelry when performing certain activities (sports, gardening, etc.) to prevent it from being knocked or from coming into contact with harmful substances.
How to clean your jewelry creation
Cleaning advice for jewelry creations
To keep your Van Cleef & Arpels creation gleaming, we recommend carefully cleaning it with a soft, dry cloth. This method can be applied across all of the Maison's jewelry creations without any risk of damage.
Due to their unique characteristics, diamonds are the only gemstones for which we recommend the use of water. To clean diamond pieces, use a soft brush and a small amount of neutral-pH liquid soap, rinse with fresh warm water, and dry with a soft dry cloth.

How to store your jewelry creation
Storage advice for your jewelry creations
Each Van Cleef & Arpels creation should be stored in a fabric-lined case for jewelry, separate from other pieces to prevent it from being knocked or scratched. Some of the materials used by the Maison are more delicate than others and are particularly susceptible to breaking on impact.
Diamonds are the most sparkling and hardest of all minerals, which means that they can scratch other softer materials. Therefore, we advise you to store any creations set with diamonds separately.
SPECIAL STONE CARE
Derived from sea shells, the mother-of-pearl selected by Van Cleef & Arpels is remarkable for its lustrous shine and delicate, iridescent reflections. We recommend avoiding contact with water to prevent any damage to your creation. Mother-of-pearl can be delicately cleaned with a soft, dry cloth.
As mother-of-pearl is a naturally soft substance, it is susceptible to small scratches on its surface.
Malachite is a soft stone distinguished by its green color streaked with harmonious light and dark lines. Over time, this stone evolves naturally and may develop a matte surface, which emphasizes its unique character.
As malachite is a naturally delicate stone, small scratches may appear on its surface. We recommend avoiding all contact with water, as this could alter its brilliance.
Vegetal in origin, this rare and precious material is prized for its mottled appearance with reddish highlights. Time brings a darker patina to its nuances of color and reveals more of its natural streaks.
As letterwood is particularly sensitive to contact with water, we recommend that you clean your creation delicately with a soft dry cloth.
