Men’s Rings, Collection Yves Gastou exhibition in Tokyo

20 December 2021

From January 14th to March 13th, L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, supported by Van Cleef & Arpels, presents the breathtaking collection of men’s rings that belonged to Yves Gastou. The exhibition will showcase an array of 400 rings.

Yves Gastou's name became known thanks to his gallery on rue Bonaparte which he founded in Paris in the mid-1980s and which quickly became a renowned address in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A pioneering antiques dealer, he was the first of his generation to juxtapose French and Italian furniture from the 1940s and 1970s with the emblematic pieces of design from the 1980s, from Sottsass, Mendini, to Kuramata.

The selection of rings on display is representative of the five themes that define the collection and illustrate its diversity: History, Gothic, Christian Mystique, Vanitas and Eclecticism. The exhibition, like a secret lair where he reveals his work, aims precisely to tell an anecdote, the story of a life devoted to art and love of objects.
