Vintage Alhambra in bois d’amourette

The making of Vintage Alhambra collection in bois d'amourette

In praise of bois d’amourette

Rare, natural and precious, bois d’amourette has graced Van Cleef & Arpels’ creations since the beginning of the 20th century. Much appreciated for its flecked appearance with reddish tints, it also contributes to the symbolism of luck to which the Maison is particularly attached.

A lucky find has today made it possible to place this auspicious material at center stage. For the Maison’s birthplace at 22 Place Vendôme contained an unexpected treasure: several planks of bois d’amourette in mint condition, purchased by Jacques Arpels – Estelle Arpels’ nephew – more than 25 years ago.

Permanent presence

Bois d’amourette is a natural material which has already made a significant contribution to the history of the Maison. From December 2012, it will also occupy a permanent place within the Alhambra collection. Van Cleef & Arpels is continuing its partnership with the same cabinet-maker and inlayer who fashioned the Limited Edition pink gold and bois d’amourette in order to create five new Vintage Alhambra models, entirely decorated with bois d’amourette. For the very first time, in addition to a Vintage Alhambra long necklace, a necklace, a bracelet, ear clips and a pendant, these new designs will accompany one motif Magic Alhambra long necklace which can be worn in two ways: in a long version on one strand of chain, or in a short version by doubling the chain. As such, it represents the tradition of convertible jewelry to which the Maison is so attached.
